Hommage à Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson n'était pas seulement une star interplanétaire, il était une émotion vivante, un être profondément sensible qui a transformé sa fragilité en une forme d'art universelle. Il était un battement de coeur partagé à l'échelle mondiale.
Né avec un don hors du commun, il a très tôt porté sur ses épaules le poids du succès. Derrière les lumières, les cris des fans et les chorégraphies légendaires, il y avait un homme en quête d'amour, de paix et de reconnaissance. Son génie à lui seul résidait dans cette capacité rare à ressentir intensément le monde et à le traduire en musique.
Chaque note qu'il chantait semblait chargée d'une vérité intérieure. Michael avait cette capacité rare à rassembler. Peu importe la langue, la culture ou l'âge, sa musique parle directement à l'âme. Elle fait danser, mais elle fait aussi réfléchir, ressentir, espérer.
On l'a surnommé le Roi de la Pop, mais ce titre ne dit pas tout. Il était un créateur d'émotions, un rêveur, un artiste qui a transformé la musique en expérience universelle ! Avec des albums comme Thriller, Bad ou Dangerous, il n'a pas seulement dominé la musique, il l'a redéfinie. Il a uni les cultures, brisé les barrières, et donné une voix aux émotions humaines les plus profondes: la joie, la douleur, l'espoir. Et aujourd'hui encore, son héritage continue de vibrer, comme une étoile qui ne cessera jamais vraiment de briller.
Là où d'autres auraient pu se replier dans la douleur, lui avait choisi de donner immensément. Michael n'était pas seulement un artiste engagé dans ses chansons, il l'était aussi dans ses actes. Avec des titres comme Heal the World, il ne se contentait pas de chanter l'espoir, il le concrétisait ! Il a soutenu, financé ou initié des dizaines d'actions humanitaires, contribuant à des causes liées à l'enfance, la santé, la lutte contre la pauvreté ou encore aux catastrophes naturelles. Il a figuré d'ailleurs dans le Guinness World Records comme l'artiste ayant soutenu le plus grand nombre d'organisations caritatives.
Mais Michael Jackson c'était aussi une grande vulnérabilité. Marqué par cette enfance difficile et cette pression constante, il a grandi sans avoir d'enfance et sous le regard du monde entier en étant totalement incompris. Sa différence, son besoin d'innocence et de douceur ont bien souvent été tournés en dérision, alors qu'ils révélaient simplement un coeur resté profondément enfant !
Sa générosité était immense et il croyait sincèrement que l'amour pouvait guérir le monde. Et il n'a jamais cessé de le dire, de le chanter, de le vivre .
Michael était un paradoxe, une icône mondiale et une âme solitaire, un perfectionniste et un rêveur, une légende ... et un homme profondément humain.
Aujourd'hui encore, son héritage dépasse la musique. Il continue d'inspirer, de rassembler, de toucher . Parce qu'au fond, ce qu'il nous a laissé de plus précieux, ce n'est pas seulement son talent ... c'est SA SENSIBILITÉ.
VINCENT PATERSON
Dans l'univers souvent fermé et exigeant de Michael Jackson, peu de personnes ont su gagner à la fois sa confiance artistique et personnelle. Vincent Paterson fait partie de ce cercle rare.
Leur rencontre au début des années 80 donne naissance à bien plus qu'une simple collaboration professionnelle. Très vite, une connexion profonde s'installe entre les deux hommes, nourrie par une même quête de perfection et un langage commun: celui du corps et du mouvement. Vincent comprend instinctivement la vision de Michael, sa manière unique de raconter des histoires à travers la danse.
Sur des projets emblématiques comme Smooth Criminal, Beat It ou Thriller Paterson ne se contente pas de danser, chorégraphier ou d'interpréter: il devient véritablement une extension de l'univers de Michael. Chaque geste semble dialoguer, chaque regard renforce cette impression d'harmonie presque instinctive.
Mais ce qui rend leur relation si particulière dépasse la scène. Dans un monde où Michael était souvent isolé, Vincent Paterson représente une présence sincère, stable, quelqu'un avec qui il peut créer sans masque ni barrière. TPCV : What did you feel during your very first meeting with Michael Jackson ?
Vincent : My first meeting with Mike was when he came into rehearsals for Beat It with Frances Morgan Chapman and me as assistants to Michael Peters. I thought he was sweet, so shy and polite. He was nervous but when we all started dancing, he relaxed and loosened up. He loved the dance that Peters had created and we had such fun dancing in those rehearsals.
TPCV : How would you describe the artist ?
Vincent : Words : motivated, perfectionist, infinitely detailed, original, innovative, outstanding, intelligent, creative, collaborative, hard working. He wanted to do everything "for the fans ".
How would you describe the man ? : Words : polite, funny, loving, kind, sweet, appreciative. People have no idea what that level of fame is like. Your freedom is taken away, you don't know who loves you for being the artist or the man. It's very difficult. Mike trusted those he invited to be around him. Everyone wanted something from him. His ability to be kind and polite in the midst of that insanity tells so much about who he was.
TPCV : What did Michael appreciate most about you, and what did you appreciate most about him ?
Vincent : I believe Michael appreciated my talent, my honesty, my ability to take his music and create movement for it that thrilled him, my creativity, my sense of humor, my ability to create work that looked great on his body. My crazy ideas that made him so happy-like the lean and coin toss in Smooth Criminal. I appreciated that Michael believed in my talent and asked me to work with him on and off for 18 years. I appreciated our work process where we would work really hard then laugh and laugh. I appreciated how he treated his dancers with kindness and respect. I appreciated his kindness and his love.
TPCV : What was the most memorable moment you spent with Michael ?
Vincent : There are so many. I wrote about many of my experiences with Mike in my book : Icons & Instincts ( Amazon ).
TPCV : What memories do you have of " Beat It " and " Thriller " ?
Vincent : Beat It was such a treat. To dance next to Mike was to feel psychic sparks shoot form his body. Honest. It made all of us who danced with him better dancers. It was fascinating to watch this shy man turn into a dancing genius when the music came on and the camera rolled. Thriller rehearsals with Mike and Michael Peters were fun. MJ came in wearing monster make-up for the 2nd day of rehearsals and the 3 of us made monster faces in the mirror for about 20 minutes. Crazy. When he left the last day of rehearsals with the dancers, he said sweetly : " Thank you, everybody. We're going to make history ". And we did.
TPCV : How did you react to the news of his death ?
Vincent : I was directing VIVA ELVIS ! for Cirque du Soleil in Canada. A friend called me to tell me and I didn't believe her. I turned on the TV and it was on the news. I broke down, sobbing .
TPCV : Do you have any regrets about a project you really wanted to do with him, but that his death prevented you from doing ?
Vincent : No, but I wish I had had the opportunity to Direct and Choregraph JAM ! I love that song and had a great concept for it : MJ a lost Prince in a tower, with some incredible freaky dancing and a lot of dancers. Wish it had happened.
TPCV : What do you miss most about Michael today ?
Vincent : His smile, his work ethic, just being with him creatively.
TPCV : What is the most beautiful memory you have of your friendship ?
Vincent : So many ...his trust in sharing with me some very personal feelings about his life and family. We had some similar situations with our fathers and it felt good to let him talk honestly with someone who understood.
TPCV : What would you like people to remember today about Michael Jackson the artist ? Michael Jackson the man ?
Vincent : There was no one like Mike and there never will be. He was the original and the only. There are many impersonators who don't credit Michael Peters or me for the work we did, but use our choregraphy without giving us credit. They are not like MJ, he respected his collaborators and gave us credit. There is and was only 1 Michael Jackson ! He was a fun, kind, polite, generous man and artist.

Michael Jackson possédait beaucoup de qualités qu'on attribue à Jésus Christ. Il était bienveillant envers les enfants, les pauvres et les malades. Je ne l'ai jamais vu se mettre en colère, ni dire du mal d'une personne derrière son dos. Il ne dénigrait jamais les capacités ou la créativité des gens, ni leur absence. Il soutenait toujours les autres artistes. Mike ne semblait pas avoir vendu son âme pour réussir. Je trouvais que c'était une qualité rare parmi les célébrités de Hollywood, en particulier dans le domaine de la musique. Le début de sa carrière en solo était le moment idéal pour que je sois présenté au " Roi de la Pop " .

You participate in events organized by Prince for his Foundation. How do you feel when you see the man he has become?
Vincent : Prince and John Muto run Heal LA, a beautiful charity " to empower young people and their families reach their full potential and build a stronger future". Prince is a very good young man. He is sweet with every one of his father's fans, and brings Michael Jackson's virtue of kindness with him everywhere he goes.

Larry Nimmer est un réalisateur et producteur américain reconnu pour son travail documentaire immersif et humain. Particulièrement lorsqu'il s'agit de montrer les coulisses d'univers rarement accessibles au grand public. Son nom reste fortement associé aux images tournées à Nerverland Ranch, la célèbre propriété de Michael Jackson.
Au début des années 2000, Larry Nimmer réalisa un documentaire consacré à Neverland, avec une approche résolument positive et contemplative. Là où beaucoup voyaient un lieu entouré de mystère et de fantasmes médiatiques, lui choisit de montrer un environnement pensé comme un refuge artistique et un espace de rêve pour les enfants défavorisés et les familles invitées par Michael Jackson. TPCV: Hello Larry, could you introduce yourself?
Larry: I've been a filmmaker and performance artist since 1970 when I went to school in U.C. Berkekley.
TPCV: How did you and Michael meet?
Larry: I was hired by his attorneyds to document Neverland Ranch for his trial. I never saw Michael while I spent a month off and on at Neverland but I did see him during the 2005 trilas.
TPCV: What did you feel during this first meeting?
Larry: As he walked by me in the courtroom, he gave a sweet hello. And, then after I testified on his behald at his trial, he gave me a warm sign of affection with his hands clasped together in a prayer...but, we never exchanged words.
TPCV: What was your role in his professional life?
Larry: I documented Neverland so that the jury could see what it was like to make a typical visit to Neverland.
TPCV: What is your fondest memory with Michael ?
Larry: His sweet smile at me.
TPCV: At what point did your working relationship turn into a real friendship?
Larry: I didn't know him until I worked for him.
TPCV: How did you experience all these accusation against Michael?
Larry: I didn't know one way or the other what to think until I worked for him and got to know him and realized that he was childlike and sheltered but I never thought he was a molester.
TPCV: What was the most painful moment for you during this shoot at Neverland?
Larry: When my son ate the candy I brought home from the Neverland movie theatre .
TPCV: What motivated you to make this documentary?
Larry: I wanted to prove Michael's innocence.
TPCV: What do you think of the biopic about Michael and Jaafar's work to honor his uncle?
Larry: I enjoyed it and thought it was well done. I particularly look forward to part 2 which will handle the allegations.
TPCV: What were your feelings when you heard about Michael's death?. How did you experience it then, and how are you still experiencing it today?
Larry: Shocked...now, I understand what pressure he was under.
TPCV: What would you like people to remember about Michael today? About the man he was?
Larry: I'd like people to know how Michael was a world class philanthropist, a many of peace and love who promoted childlike innocence!

TPCV: Why did you decide to make a second documentary?
Larry : The second documentary was updated.
TPCV: What did you think of the documentaries about Michael, those that show him in a ridiculous light or those in which he is asked intimate and disturbing questions?
Larry: I don't like any documentaries that are sensational and ond sided in order ot make money.
TPCV: On June 3rd, Netflix is releasing a documentary that will once again be more negative than positive. Do you understand this relentless effort to smear him?
Larry: It's sad that Michael's name can't rest in peace...but, I'm happy to see a resurgence in appreciation of Michael, particularly by young people.
TPCV: What does Michael's defense lawyer, who followed you in the first documentary, think of all this?
Larry: I don't know.
TPCV: Do you think a new, honestly made documentary could silence dishonest people? If so would, you be willing to make it?
Larry: I don't think so. But, I would be happy to make another documentary.
TPCV: What would you like to say in response to all the slander that continues to be directed at Michael?
Larry: Slander is too bad. I guess most people can't understand that Michael was childlike for a good reason...kids judged him less...Unfortunately, he scammers to take advantage of him.
